Spain and Italy, two traditional strongholds in the use of dubbing, have experienced in recent years a dramatic increase in the availability of subtitling as an alternative. The success of Digital Versatile Disc has greatly contributed to this state of affairs, but also the fact that a relevant segment of the local population is getting more and more in touch with other languages and cultures. This volume wants to contribute to the academica interest in this still very young filed by presenting a compilation of articles which analyse the specific requirements of translation for subtitling from different perspectives, written by Spanish and Italian lecturers specialized in this subject.
