We present the results of a descriptive study on the training needs perceived by the teaching and research staff (PDI) of the University of Barcelona (UB), carried out by the UB Professional Development Institute (IDP-ICE). An ad-hoc designed questionnaire was used to collect the opinion of UB PDI about three main sectors: sociodemographic data; degree of interest in training for teaching, research and management; and assessment of the general aspects of the training required. The questionnaire was sent to all of the UB PDI (5,489 people), obtaining 1,118 responses (20.37%). A descriptive analysis of the overall results on training needs is presented, comparing professional category, sex, and years of teaching experience, both qualitative and quantitative issues. The analysis of the results obtained will help to adjust our training offer and improve the design and planning of the training for the UB PDI to improve their academic professional development.
