    El abandono escolar temprano es un tema de preocupación para la mayoría de los países de todo el mundo. Esta preocupación tiene importantes consecuencias tanto para la calidad de vida de la persona como para el crecimiento económico del país. El objetivo de este estudio es describir las variables que influyen en el estudiante que deja la escuela sin obtener un grado de educación obligatoria. Se realizó una búsqueda avanzada en varias bases de datos internacionales: ERIC, SCOPUS y WEB OF SCIENCE. Las palabras clave que se incluyeron fueron: review, early school leaving, school dropout, completion, dropping out, retention, repetition, academic failure, out of school, student attrition, truancy, secondary education and school. Se encontró un total de 124 variables que influyeron en el estudiante que abandonó la escuela. Las principales conclusiones apuntan a la necesidad de realizar diagnósticos globales para conocer en profundidad las causas del abandono escolar.

    Early school leaving is a topic of concern to most countries around the world. This concern has its important consequences both for the quality of life of the person and for the economic growth of the country .The objective of this paper is to describe the variables that influence the student who leaves school without obtaining compulsory education degree. An advanced search was undertaken in various international databases: ERIC, SCOPUS and WEB OF SCIENCE. The key words that were included were: review, early school leaving, school dropout, completion, dropping out, retention, repetition, academic failure, out of school, student attrition, truancy, secondary education and school. A total of 124 variables that influence early school leaving were found. It is concluded that, the realization of global diagnostics will be fundamental to know in depth the causes of the student dropout.
