In 2009, Benedict XVI wrote the encyclical Caritas in Veritate about integral human development in charity and truth. Since then, several studies have tried to answer that call through a series of conceptual studies, which were mainly trying to draw a connection between gift and management and economic studies. Despite the merit of these works, the integration of the logic of gift into management is still quite fragmentary. This dissertation aims to fill this gap by studying how the gift is integrated within management and what are the consequences of its presence for business. For this purpose, this dissertation includes three papers: First, we have built a morally-based taxonomy of three categories and eight types of gift-giving from Aquinas moral object of the action. Second, we studied how do the gift and exchange interplay in corporate giving. We answer this inquiry through a single case study, the alliance between the Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunization (GAVI) and La Caixa. Third, we investigate the relationship between team performance and gift-giving is. We explore this inquiry through sports data, more specifically, data from the National Basketball Association (NBA).
