In contemporary society, digital competence has become essential, especially in distance education. In institutions such as the UNED, tutor teachers play a crucial role in guiding students from the Associated Centres and virtual learning environments. This study consists of a sample of 562 UNED tutors, aged between 23 and 64. Its main objective is to analyse the training needs in digital competence of these professionals and, in this way, to strengthen the weakest ones through specific training programmes. The instrument used was a questionnaire. It is based on a quantitative design, frequency analysis, through which the key competence areas that need to be strengthened have been identified. It is concluded that, despite the fact that tutor teachers receive good initial and continuous training, it would be beneficial to work on the six areas proposed in the European framework of DigCompEd, in order to design specific training programmes that not only improve the digital skills of tutors, but also contribute to a higher quality distance education.
