    • From the starting point that in order to achieve the competences of the twenty-first century, whichinternational agencies and governments want to be planned in the teaching of schools, it is necessary to maintain conceptualisation together with operationalisation, because one without the other is not sufficient for theformation of the person, the contribution frames the reflection in the practices of “Avanguardie Educative”.This is a movement founded 10 years ago in Italy thanks to INDIRE and 22 innovative schools.In particular, from the reflections on Service Learning (SL) as an educational response to the current educational scenario, carried out in the research dialogue between INDIRE researchers and teachers from the movement’s schools and linked to their educational practices, the contribution highlights the link between the development of curricular and transversal competences in relation to the collaboration between formal, non-formaland informal education. Reference to some experiences of the AE movement supports the relationship betweenpedagogical theory and educational practice
