  • Resumen
    • Phraseology, as a form of expression inextricably linked to the identity, idiosyncrasy and culture of a linguistic community, reveals the way in which its speakers construct and reconstruct the world. With this premise as a starting point, in this paper we propose to analyse Spanish phraseology in terms of the representation of women and, more specifically, how it contributes to the creation and perpetuation of gender values and stereotypes. Based on a corpus of 154 phraseological expressions of peninsular Spanish that refer to characteristics attributed to the female gender, we propose to analyse and detect the stereotypes that persist in Spanish social identity in current language. The cognitive phraseological approach will allow us to determine how speakers categorise themselves and how this categorisation is linguistically codified, highlighting a series of semantic connotations with sexist implications. All this, with a view to tackling the problem of gender in the translation of phraseological units.
