La inmigración irregular hacia España no es un fenómeno aislado, sino que se engloba dentro del conjunto de la Unión Europea. La vigilancia de las costas de España equivale a vigilar las costas de la Unión Europea, toda vez que no todos los inmigrantes que llegan a España lo hacen con la intención de permanecer en ella, sino que por razones de lengua y cultura buscan otros países europeos.
La lucha contra la inmigración irregular se desarrolla a través de diferentes acciones; una es la vigilancia de fronteras, pero teniendo en cuenta que con ella no se impide la llegada de inmigrantes a Europa, debe combinarse con las políticas de acogida y asistencia de inmigrantes cuando llegan a suelo europeo. Además, la prioridad actual de Europa es estudiar las causas profundas de la inmigración y fomentar un desarrollo económico en los países africanos, de manera que los habitantes de estos países no necesiten emigrar para alcanzar unas condiciones de vida dignas y suficientes.
La Unión Europea no rechaza a los inmigrantes, sino que busca una llegada ordenada, ya que ellos aportan mano de obra y población, necesarios para mantener el sistema de vida europeo.

Irregular immigration to Spain is not an isolated phenomenon, as it is included within the whole of the European Union. The surveillance of the coasts of Spain is equivalent to monitoring the coasts of the European Union, since not all immigrants arriving in Spain do so with the intention of remaining in it, but for reasons of language and culture they look for other European countries.
The fight against irregular immigration is developed through different actions;
border surveillance is one, but taking into account that it does not prevent by itself the arrival of immigrants to Europe, it must be combined with the policies of reception and assistance of immigrants when they reach European soil. In addition, Europe’s current priority is to study the root causes of immigration and promote economic development in African countries, so that the inhabitants of these countries do not need to migrate to achieve decent and sufficient living conditions.
The European Union does not reject immigrants, but seeks an orderly arrival, since they provide labor and population, necessary to maintain the European life system.
