La celebración de la 45ª Conferencia Anual de AEDEAN (Asociación Española de Estudios AngloNorteamericanos) en la ciudad de Cáceres en el otoño de 2022 fue una empresa monumental que exigió nuestro compromiso inquebrantable y esfuerzos sostenidos. Con gran orgullo presentamos este volumen de ponencias seleccionadas, que resume el viaje académico emprendido durante nuestra conferencia, bajo el lema "Bridging Cultures: English and American Studies in Spain".
Tendiendo puentes entre culturas: English and American Studies in Spain' abarca un periodo que va desde los primeros años de la Restauración hasta el posthumanismo de Alexander McQueen; y entre las muchas contribuciones que invitan a la reflexión, los lectores encontrarán valiosas investigaciones sobre la adquisición del lenguaje y un análisis geográfico del pronombre de segunda persona. Por ello, hemos considerado oportuno dividir el libro en dos secciones: "Estudios de literatura y cultura" y "Lengua y lingüística".
La sección de Literatura y Estudios Culturales presenta catorce artículos que abarcan un rico tapiz de temas, desde la literatura irlandesa, canadiense, sudafricana, australiana, estadounidense e inglesa hasta el cine, la televisión y los estudios culturales. Los artículos de esta primera sección abordan temas y nociones de interés actual como la ficción para jóvenes adultos, la globalización, la política contemporánea o las culturas indígenas, por citar sólo algunos.
La sección de Lengua y Lingüística, por su parte, presenta siete trabajos que abordan un amplio espectro de fenómenos sincrónicos y diacrónicos de la lengua inglesa. Estas investigaciones exploran aspectos fonéticos, léxicos y gramaticales y muestran los diversos enfoques metodológicos utilizados en subcampos como la enseñanza de idiomas, la lingüística contrastiva, el contacto lingüístico y la variación lingüística.
En nuestra opinión, las ponencias y mesas redondas recogidas en este volumen representan la excelente calidad de los Estudios Ingleses y Americanos que se llevan a cabo en las universidades españolas.

Hosting the 45th Annual Conference of AEDEAN (Asociación Española de Estudios AngloNorteamericanos) in the city of Cáceres in the autumn of 2022 was a monumental undertaking that demanded our unwavering commitment and sustained e_orts. It is with great pride that we present this volume of selected papers, encapsulating the scholarly journey undertaken during our conference, under the theme ‘Bridging Cultures: English and American Studies in Spain’.
‘Bridging Cultures: English and American Studies in Spain’ pans a period from the early years of the Restoration to Alexander McQueen’s posthumanism; and among the many thought-provoking contributions, readers will find valuable research on language acquisition and a geographical analysis of the second-person pronoun. Thus, we considered it appropriate to divide the book into two sections: ‘Literature and Culture Studies’ and ‘Language and Linguistics’.
The Literature and Cultural Studies section features fourteen papers encompassing a rich tapestry of themes, from Irish, Canadian, South African, Australian, American and English literature to film, television and cultural studies. The papers in this first section engage with topics and notions of current interest such as young adult fiction, globalization, contemporary politics or indigenous cultures to name but a few.
The Language and Linguistics section, on the other hand, presents seven papers addressing a broad spectrum of synchronic and diachronic phenomena in the English language. These investigations explore phonetic, lexical and grammatical aspects and showcase the diverse methodological approaches used in subfields such as language teaching, contrastive linguistics, language contact and language variation.
In our opinion, the papers and round tables featured in this volume represent the outstanding quality English and American Studies conducted in Spanish universities.
