    • In the field of the teaching profession, the ability to adapt to one’s career is very often linked to one’s vocational identity. Adaptability is a fundamental skill in the teaching profession. Career adaptability involves four fundamental dimensions of adaptability: concern, control, curiosity, and confidence. The aim of this research is to compare the adaptability of student teachers at the beginning and end of their training stage, in order to improve decision-making and the construction of a more appropriate profile of the teaching career. A total of 973 students from different specializations of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences of the Central University of Ecuador participated in the research. A comparative cross-sectional research design is used. Data analysis techniques include profile comparison, using repeated measures ANOVA, t-test, and Pearson’s correlation. The results indicate that there is an improvement in adaptive capacity in the dimensions of control and confidence, and is very close to being so in the total score of adaptability. On the other hand, there are significant correlations between the ability to adapt to one’s career and vocational identity. These results, obtained in the Ecuadorian context, have implications for the training and development of the personal and professional capacities of students in teaching careers
