Digital competence (DC) is fundamental in the training of university students and is assessed through the DIGCOMP framework. This study sought to identify, through expert judgment, the most relevant DIGCOMP competencies in higher education academia. The content validity index (CVR’) was used to validate the competencies that best fit this context. The experts found a high consensus in the areas of information and data literacy (CVR’=0.88), and communication and collaboration (0.88). On the other hand, competencies such as civic engagement (0.54) and programming (0.17) were considered of low academic relevance. The results suggest that prioritizing the competencies validated as essential could improve student performance. There is a clear need to develop training programs focused on searching and evaluating information, as well as communicating and collaborating digitally. These programs should be guided by evidence on which DIGCOMP competencies to emphasize in the context of higher education. The study contributes to a more accurate and contextualized assessment of the DCs that directly impact academic training, allowing to diagnose them and generate initiatives for their improvement, in order to enhance the learning of university students.
