The labour market demands highly skilled professionals who can adapt to the dynamics and requirements of the industry. In this context, university education is crucial for preparing future professionals who contribute to the development and progress of countries. Specifically, engineering is linked to the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), highlighting its importance in the evolution towards a more sustainable and just society. This changing and dynamic discipline requires active engagement with the environment to meet the needs of the present century. Therefore, companies and organisations are key, making it essential to understand their perception of university education and the most valued skills in engineering training. The study explores employers’ perceptions of industrial civil engineering education, identifying areas for improvement and strengths. A mixed-methods design was used, involving perception surveys and performance evaluations of students in professional practice. The results demonstrate strengths in information analysis and problem-solving but reveal gaps in various transversal skills. Considering the findings, the research suggests an integration into the curriculum, as well as promoting collaboration between academia and industry.
