The digital competence (CD) of university teaching staff is essential to improve the teaching-learning process in an increasingly digitalized environment. This competence involves mastering both technical and pedagogical skills, using digital tools to enrich the curriculum and adapt to the needs of students. The present study analyses the self-perception about CD of 157 university teachers using the “DigCompEdu Check-In”. The results reveal a very good self-perception at a global level, with a competency level of “Leader (C1)”, as well as a good self-perception in each of the competency areas (Professional commitment, Digital resources, Pedagogy Digital, Evaluation and feedback, Empowering students and Facilitating students’ digital competence), obtaining the level of “Expert (B2)” in all of them. No statistically significant differences were found in self-perception according to sex, teaching experience, teaching modality or branch of knowledge; but significant differences are detected, in all competency areas, between teachers who have received ICT training and those who have not. Trendingly significant differences were also found in the area of “Digital resources” between teachers who had taught ICT related teaching and those who had not. Despite the good self-perception, the results highlight the need for continuous training in ICT, as well as the relevance of teaching experience in subjects related to ICT.
