    The objective of the present study was to analyze the factors that contribute to the intention of ageing in place, in people aged 50 years and over, who live in their homes, in Portugal. Data were collected through an adaptation of the questionnaire by Ahn, Kang, and Kwon (2020) for the Portuguese context. The sample consisted of 256 individuals, aged between 50 and 98 years. The results obtained were analyzed based on the Theory of Planned Behavior model (Ajzen, 1991) and indicate that the subjective norm and perceived behavioral control components play a significant role for the intention of aging in place. The relational dimension also proved to have a good predictive value of the intention of aging in place, especially in terms of the social/community relationship dimension. Despite the exploratory nature of the study results allow reflection on the most valued aspects in the intention of aging in place with a Portuguese sample. The results allow us to identify the most significant predictors of people's intention to continue to age in their homes and communities.

    O objetivo do presente estudo foi analisar os fatores que contribuem para a intenção de ageing in place, em pessoas com idade igual ou superior a 50 anos, que residam nas suas casas, em Portugal.

    Os dados foram recolhidos através do questionário de Ahn, Kang e Kwon (2020) adaptado para Portugal. A amostra foi constituída por 256 indivíduos, com idades entre os 50 e 98 anos. Os resultados obtidos foram analisados com base no modelo da Teoria do Comportamento Planeado (Ajzen, 1991) e indicam que as componentes norma subjetiva e controlo comportamental percebido têm um papel significativo para a intenção de ageing in place. Também a dimensão relacional revelou ter um bom valor preditivo da intenção de ageing in place, sobretudo, ao nível da dimensão relacionamento social/comunidade.  Apesar da natureza exploratória do estudo, os resultados obtidos permitem refletir sobre os aspetos mais valorizados na intenção de ageing in place junto de uma amostra portuguesa. Os resultados contribuem para uma melhor compreensão dos fatores que mais influenciam a intenção das pessoas continuarem a envelhecer nas suas casas e comunidades.
