    La UNED ha contado con un papel principal indiscutible –dentro y fuera de nuestras fronteras en lo que a la educación a distancia se refiere. Siendo pionera, en España, en la formación en estudios superiores exclusivamente a distancia. El alumnado, aunque ha ido variando en el tiempo, continúa siendo mayoritariamente de un perfil de más de 30 años que compatibiliza los estudios con la vida familiar y laboral, y cuyas características principales se podrían resumir en la resiliencia, el pensamiento crítico, el compromiso y la flexibilidad. Un alumnado que sin la existencia de la UNED hubiera encontrado difícil, si no imposible, el acceder a una titulación universitaria, encontrándose en ella la posibilidad de conciliar la vida familiar y/o laboral con la consecución de los estudios.

    Las TIC han permitido a la UNED volverse, en cierta manera, omnipresente. Y es que un solo smartphone con conexión a internet hace posible llevar los estudios a cabo. Algo que ha tenido presente incluyendo la alfabetización digital entre uno de sus objetivos principales. Supone para el alumnado que, actualmente, quienes emplean aprecien enormemente competencias como la motivación o autorregulación, ya que, son muy valiosas en el mercado laboral. Y para las y los tutores, la responsabilidad de incluir la parte más humana, la labor de mantener y aumentar la motivación y la reflexión, y a la vez la satisfacción de ver como el alumnado al que ha tutorizado va viendo reconocido su esfuerzo en la superación de las materias, y consigue su titulación.

    With some precedents inside and outside our borders, the UNED has played an indisputably leading role in distance education, being a pioneer in Spain in higher education training exclu-sively at a distance. The student body, although it has varied over time, continues to be mostly of a profile of over 30 years of age who combine studies with family and work life, and whose main characteristics could be summarized in resilience, critical thinking, commitment and fle-xibility. A student body that without the existence of the UNED would have found it difficult, if not impossible, to access a university degree, finding in it the possibility of reconciling family life and / or work with the pursuit of studies.ICT has allowed the UNED to become somewhat omnipresent, and a single smartphone with internet connection makes it possible to carry out studies. Something that has been taken into account including digital literacy among one of its main objectives. For students, it means that their employers now highly value skills such as motivation or self-regulation, which are very valuable in the labor market. And for the tutors, the responsibility of including the most human part, the work of maintaining and increasing motivation and reflection, and at the same time the satisfaction of seeing how the students they have tutored see their efforts recognized in overco-ming the subjects, and achieve their degree
