Existing research highlight the importance of external knowledge sourcing in manufacturers’ innovative process. In particular, supplier involvement in new product development has been widely analysed without conclusive results. With the aim to shed light on this matter, this paper provides a deeper insight by analysing indirect effectsin the relationship between supplier involvement and two NPD dimensions (efficiency and effectiveness). Specifically, the relationships with supporting organisations as mechanism by which knowledge provided by suppliers leads to better innovationperformance is examined. The results show that while there is a positive and significant indirect effect of supplier involvement on NPD efficiency through relationships with supporting organisations, that indirect effect is no significant for increasing NPD effectiveness
