The aim of this study was to analyse the fatty acid (FA) composition in follicular fluid (FF) of prepubertal and adult goats during different seasons in order to find a relationship with oocyte quality and the diet. FF was recovered by LOPU from adult goats and by follicular aspiration of ovaries from suckling prepubertal goats. FF was frozen (-80ºC) and analysed by gas chromatography. The main FAs found in FF in both ages were palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids, which are different from FAs of goat milk. FF of adult goats showed seasonal variation although they were fed with the same diet all year. In our previous studies, we observed lower percentage of blastocysts produced in vitro in autumn (4.7 %) than in winter (15.8 %) in prepubertal goat oocytes. FF presented lower n-3 FA (2 % vs. 5 %) and higher n-6 FA (23 % vs. 20 %) in autumn than in winter. n-3 was low in milk in both seasons. In conclusion, the percentage of n-3 and n-6 can explain some differences in oocyte competence of prepubertal goats. FF composition of adult goat ovaries has some variation according to the season that is not explained by the diet.
