  • Resumen
    • In rabbits, several authors have studied the protein composition of seminal plasma of lines A and R and the results suggested the existence of seasonal variations in the protein composition of seminal plasma in this species. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of season on seminal plasma protein profile of rabbit lines A and R. Results showed that eight protein bands were significantly different between genetic lines and among these, only one band was significantly different between seasons. In the remaining protein bands no significant differences were found. These results demonstrate the existence of differences in the relative amount of certain bands of seminal plasma protein profile between A and R line along the year. The differential presence of these eight proteins could explain the differences observed in fertility between these two lines in earlier studies. From this study, it can be concluded that in rabbit, genetic male line affects the protein composition of seminal plasma in a greater extent than the season. However, more studies are needed to understand how proteins regulate seminal plasma and sperm function to identify each protein with its particular effect.
