  • Resumen
    • The oceanic climate conditions of Asturias are favorable for grass and pasture production. However, the use of concentrates in dairy cows diets has increased in the last decades and there is a large dependence of Usable Agricultural Area (UAA) destined to maize culture. Moreover, grazing is proposed as a strategy to reduce the cost of feed inputs in dairy cow farms. Four feeding systems have been identified in dairy farms of Asturias: grazing (P), less than 20% of UAA destined to maize, about 50% and more than 75% of UAA destined to maize. The aim of this work was studied the feedstuffs origin in the four feeding systems identified. There were selected four dairy farms by feeding system (N=16) and the farmer were interviewed about animal feedstuffs and milk production three times from April to December 2014. The results show that the purchase of forage off-farm was lower in dairy cow systems with de highest UAA destined to maize culture. Furthermore this system spends less concentrate by kg of milk.
