This contribution is rneant to analyse the present situntion of Gnli-cian translation agencies in the hope that this knowledge enables translntion trainers to improve their programmes according to the rnarket necessities. With this view, we have interviewed most translation agencies in Galicin using far this purpose a battery of questions such as what texts, lnnguages and services are the most required, what fentures this professional must show, what techni-cal tools they need in their work, etc. The analysis of these data allows us to conclude that there is a hopeful future far professional translntion in our com-munity, as contacts among different cultural and linguistic systems intensifiJ. The next step to get improvements in this sector should be taken towards the establishrnent of an association of agencies which propases an ethic code, sup-ports dialogue among its members and fights far their right
