  No seamos inocentes. La segregación no es un efecto colateral indeseado producto de inocentes políticas educativas que solo buscan mejorar la calidad de la educación. La segregación escolar es un acto consciente y deliberado de opresión –en el sentido de Iris Marion Young (2011)– por el cual los grupos que ostentan el poder separan, excluyen y marginan a colectivos minoritarios, impidiéndoles, de esta forma, recibir una enseñanza de calidad. Sin esta concepción de segregación como ejercicio de poder, no estamos captando la verdadera magnitud de la segregación escolar, ni seremos capaces de comprenderla, ni podremos rearmarnos para luchar contra ella.

  Let's not be innocent. Segregation is not an unintended side effect of innocent educational policies that only seek to improve the quality of education. School segregation is a conscious and deliberate act of oppression - in the sense of Iris Marion Young (2011) – whereby the groups that hold power separate, exclude, and marginalize minority groups, so they are preventing them from receiving education quality. Without that conception of segregation as an exercise of power, we are not grasping the true magnitude of school segregation, nor will we be able to understand it, nor will we be able to rearm ourselves to fight against it.
