Digital network protection, as a part of the main discipline of electrical networks and power systems, is one of the fundamental sub disciplines of the power system engineering. This sub discipline at Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg is offered as one lecture with practical exercises to the students of the master program as well as for the undergraduate students. A new, multimedia way of teaching as an addition to this lecture is offered to the students in a specially designed multimedia laboratory at the university since fall 2004. In this paper the realization of an e-learning project for the discipline digital protection, as a part of a complex of e-learning lectures offered at the university, will be presented. The concept of implementation of the learning material on the basis of written scenarios is shown. The learning material contains numerous simulations in MATLAB for illustration of the teaching material. Multiple-choice tests for enquiry of the reached knowledge during the virtual teaching are also implemented in the e-learning course.
