Wayne Nirode, Daniel Ness (coord.), Nick Wasserman (coord.), Benjamin Dickman (coord.)
Nirode aims to analyzes the prototypical diagrams of ellipses and hyperbolas if the two foci are not points but are instead intersecting lines. It explores the use of alternated circle as a tool to investigate these alternate ellipses and provides a proof of one result. It repeats the investigation for the alternate hyperbolas along with another proof. The author also discusses ways to tie these alternate definitions into high school curriculum and provides suggestions for further exploration.
