La legibilidad constituye un factor decisivo para optimizar la usabilidad de los periódicos digitales. Para alcanzar este objetivo y facilitar la comprensión del mensaje, resulta imprescindible atender a los rasgos tipográficos del texto base de la noticia. Mediante una metodología cuantitativa, el presente estudio trata de examinar si, como sucede en la prensa escrita, los diarios en línea españoles presentan convenciones significativas en el diseño de este elemento redaccional, tanto en ordenador como en teléfono móvil.
El análisis se completa con un examen de las estrategias adaptativas de cada publicación mediante una comparación de las propiedades visuales del texto base en ambos dispositivos. La investigación concluye que existe una sutil homogeneidad en las características tipográficas del cuerpo de texto y unas diferencias notables en las fórmulas adaptativas de estos medios.

Legibility is a decisive factor to optimize the usability of digital newspapers. In order to achieve this goal and to improve the understanding of the message, it is essential to consider the typographic features of the news body text. Through a quantitative method, this study tries to analyze whether, as seen in print press, Spanish online journals show significant standards in the design of this element, both on desktop and smartphone.
The investigation is completed with an analysis of the adaptive strategies of each publication by comparing the visual properties of the body text in these two devices. The research concludes that there is a subtle homogeneity in the typographic characteristics of the body text and important differences in the responsive methods of these publications.
