    En este artículo, se pretende justificar la necesidad y los objetivos de la formación pedagógica del profesor universitario a partir de los nuevos retos que la universidad tiene que afrontar a comienzos del siglo XXI, y los nuevos papeles y tareas que el profesor tiene que desempeñar en la universidad del aprendizaje, y en la sociedad del conocimiento, de la tecnología, la información y la comunicación. La necesidad de la formación pedagógica del profesor universitario se vincula, entre otras variables, a la necesidad de profesionalizar la docencia universitaria, la consideración de la tarea docente como realidad compleja, difícil y retadora, la exigencia de una docencia excelente en una cultura de calidad institucional, la relación entre calidad de la enseñanza y formación pedagógica del profesor, y la "complementaridad" entre formación en las disciplinas a enseñar, por una parte, y los procedimientos para facilitar su aprendizaje, por otra

    In this article we try to explain the needs and objectives of pedagogical training for universtity professors, starting from the new challenges that university has to face in the beginings of the 21st Century, and the new roles and tasks that professors must undertake in the university of learning and the society of knowledge, technology, information and communication. The need for pedagogical training in university professors is linked, among other variables, with the need of professionalizing university teaching, and with the fact of considering the teaching task as a complex, difficult and challenging reality. It also deals with the requirement of an excellent teaching in a culture of institutional quality, and it has to be with the relation between quality of teaching and pedagogical training of professors, and "complementation" between subject training on the one hand, and methods to facilitate the learning of those subjects, on the other hand
