Este trabajo presenta de forma introductoria la existencia de actividad traductora entre los misioneros dominicos valencianos en América y Extremo Oriente. Tiene un doble propósito: por un lado, mostrar su contribución al conocimiento de los territorios de ultramar por medio de la traducción, entendida esta en sentido amplio, y de otro lado, poner en valor el carácter mediador intercultural de sus escritos, reivindicando su estudio en el ámbito de la historia de la traducción. En primer lugar, se justifica la pertinencia de esta investigación. A continuación, se exponen los criterios metodológicos utilizados y se contextualiza la labor de los valencianos en el conjunto de la Orden. Finalmente se presenta una selección de los datos obtenidos en forma de notas biográficas.
This research introduces the existence of a translator activity among the Dominican missionaries in America and the Far East. It has a dual purpose: on the one hand, to show their contribution to the knowledge of the overseas territories by means of translation, understood in a broad sense, and on the other hand, to value the intercultural mediator character of their writings, claiming its study in the field of the history of translation. First, the relevance of this research is justified. Next, the methodological criteria used are presented and the work of the Valencians in the Order as a whole is contextualized. Finally, a selection of the data obtained in the form of biographical notes is presented.
