This paper analyses the urban-touristic development produced around the dunes system of Corralejo (Fuerteventura, Canary Islands), in order to identify what effects have been produced on the dune system dynamics, and the ensuing environmental consequences. The results show that in some sectors the buildings have interrupted the input of sediment from the beach, and that the dunes have been stabilized in other areas close to the urban areas. These alterations may jeopardize the survival of the dunes system, which is a key resource for tourism.
