    • University extension constitutes one of the fundamental functions served by LatinAmerican universities. Its origin may be traced back to the events which took place at the1918 Córdoba University Reform and, since then, such function has pursued various aimsand has been performed—through different policies—at these universities, which havemade its meaning more complex and have broadened its scope.In this article, there is an analysis of one of the recently developed policies on universityextension at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA): Educational Social Practices (ESPs). Thesepractices constitute service-learning efforts, since they are formative paths which allow for theintegration of curricular content with society’s needs and demands. In this way, ESPs studiesconstitute a valuable contribution to the reflection on good practices related to the institutionalization and importance attached to university extension at universities.
