  • Resumen
    • In the second half of the 20th century, in most developed countries, university graduates were morelikely to get a good job in the labour market (well paid, good conditions, permanent tenure), however nowadays it is being mostly impossible for them to get a good job or at least to get a job adequate to their educationallevel. In 2018 Spanish labour market, around 30 percent of the university graduates were already working ina job which required a lower educational level and this percentage has been increasing since then. Empiricalliterature has demonstrated the increase in the proportion of over-educated university graduates in the Spanishlabour market, however, few of these studies have considered how individuals’ skill heterogeneity may affectthe probability of being overeducated. Accounting for these individuals’ skill heterogeneity is essential tobetter interpret the effect that being over-educated has on individuals’ outcomes in the labour market. UsingOECD data from the Survey of Adults Skills (PIAAC), we use the Heckman two-step model to measure theeffect that individuals’ cognitive skill heterogeneity has on the probability of being over-educated in the Spanish labour market. The results show that introduce individuals’ skills heterogeneity in the analysis is importantas well as accounting for the selection of the sample, however, there are still some latent variables which mayaffect the effect of skill heterogeneity.
