  El contexto es un elemento clave en el ámbito de la educación estadística. Se presenta una investigación cuyo objetivo es analizar la capacidad del alumnado de 14 y 15 años para trabajar con datos reales, analizar gráficos estadísticos y tablas de frecuencias, e interpretar datos estadísticos en su contexto. Los resultados del análisis descriptivo y exploratorio demuestran que la mayoría del alumnado es capaz de analizar e interpretar correctamente los datos presentados a través de gráficos y tablas estadísticas. Sin embargo, parte del alumnado presenta dificultades al identificar la variable representada. Surgen más dificultades al calcular e interpretar la media y la mediana — generalmente derivadas del uso de marcas de clase — y al tomar decisiones. El alumnado hace un escaso uso del contexto en el que se presentan los datos. Se concluye la necesidad de fomentar la relevancia del contexto en la enseñanza de la estadística, promoviendo una toma de decisiones argumentada.

  Context is a key element in statistics education. The objective of this study is to examine the capacity of 14- and 15-year-old students to work with real data, analyse statistical graphs and frequency tables and interpret statistical data in its context. The results of the descriptive, exploratory analysis show that most students were correctly able to analyse and interpret data presented through statistical graphs and tables. However, some students had difficulties when it came to identifying the represented variables. More difficulties arose when calculating and interpreting means and medians — generally produced from the use of class midpoints — and making decisions.

  Results reinforce the importance of using context in the teaching of statistics, encouraging justified decision-making
