  • Resumen
    • Day by day, the great companies are reduced to increase their competitiveness. After these reductions, the small enterprises have kept assuming a prominent role in the employment creation, opportunities of investment and innovation, and therefore, have always become the core of many economies (for example, the North American, European and Latin American among others). Although the creation of small enterprises has increased significantly, their failure rates have been historically high (Bates and Nucci, 1989), leading to the investigation of mechanisms that would allow their reduction. The main objetive of a Business Incubator Company (IBVE) is ¿to produce¿ successful companies that leave the incubation program when they are independent and financially viable it is the moment in which they ¿graduate¿. The graduate enterprises go out from the incubator with a great potential to create employments, to revitalize the local economy, to market new technologies and to strengthen the regional and national economy (NBIA, 1997). A company or enterprise is the basic unit of the economic activity in the system of the market, it creates wealthy and generates employment. Those places where the population has a big corporate spirit, ability to perceive business opportunities quickly and creativity, and what is most important, ability to consolidate companies, will be the first ones that register the highest economic growth rates and better employment evolution. Entrepreneurship in Catalonia is part of the population¿s idiosyncrasy whereas in public and private organisms special interest is given to the small and medium companies. The main of this research is to build a reference model that assess the effectiveness of creation and transference of knowledge (KM) in business incubators (IBVE) from a multiple study of IBVE organizations in Catalonia. The components of the model, are groups of organizational elements named dimensions and sub-dimensions, which hold the complex process of KM in the IBVE. Using the KM as a fundamental basis, the model is complemented considering the use of four organizational elements that investigate about the use of the information and communication technology (ICT), organizational endogenous elements (DENE), organizational exogenous elements (DEXE) and elements of human organizational talent (DETO). An exploratory study was developed during two periods, mainly in 2009 and 2014/15 based on the triangulation of methodologies as a case study, a well-founded theory and a Delphi expert committee. The study showed that KM is perceived positively by the group of IBVE studied, and it has also been found that the ICT dimensions, DENE, DEXE and DETO are considered important organizational elements that contribute in the productivity of internal and external communication processes, encourage accomplishment of goals and the cohesion of the work teams, encourage the business relationships with the chain of stakeholders and facilitate the teamwork. The Delphi expert committee revealed the importance of working the KM in the IBVE companies. Given the complexity of the process of building a model of KM for IBVE organizations this counts as one of the most important innovative contributions of this research.
