The biotechnology is the science whose object is the application of scientific and technical knowledge for the purpose of improving the quality of life of humans and animals. We understand technical knowledge, for example, techniques that serve our goals. Some of the techniques used in this work, are included in the field of exploratory multivariate analysis called hierarchical classification or "hierarquical cluster analysis". To use these techniques, you must set a coefficient of similarity or dissimilarity, which may be a distance between the pairs of elements of the set that you want to rate, and then choose a criterion for aggregation between classes (e.g. Bacelar-Nicolau, 1987; Nicolau & Bacelar-Nicolau, 1998; Bacelar-Nicolau, 2000). The hierarchical classification techniques apply to the Portuguese mortality and cellular model.
