This doctoral thesis will consist of three scientific publications. Specifically, it will be articulated in the realization of three scientific articles, which are expected to be published in high-impact journals in the research category referring to the study area. In line with what is reflected in the schedule of this thesis, one article per year will be produced. The first of them will have a more descriptive nature and will analyze the conflict between mussel and barnacle producers in Galicia. This case study will be based on provisioning services relevant to this region and will be analyzed using the New Institutional Economics methodology. The following two articles will focus on the evolution of the catches of the Spanish fleet in a European context in which the closure of fishing grounds and the restriction of the use of certain gear make it difficult for part of the national fleet to survive. Therefore, the objectives pursued by the realization of this doctoral thesis are the following: following: Objective 1: Characterize marine ecosystem services, from a socio-economic perspective, expanding academic knowledge about the themselves at the same time that they are updated and contextualized in a scenario complex where the interrelationships between the political, economic, cultural and biological are considered. Objective 2: Apply institutional analysis to marine ecosystem services to characterize the institutional change and the distributional effects derived from the new legislative framework conditioned by environmental strategies European. Objective 3: Analyze the economic viability of the services of marine procurement in a context of present and future sustainability.
