- Resumen
his research aims to focus on issues related to public health, mental health of the students with special needs. Moreover this research can help us to understand some definitions which are very important and useful such as health, health promotion, health education, mental health e.t.c.
In Greece the first school services on issues related to public health begin in 1910. In this period the central service of health is created in the Greek ministry of education. In 1914 the ministry of education decides to make the school health services. This was very important for the greek school hygiene system. After that in 1976 the government decides to transfer all these services to the ministry of social affairs services. Until 1985 the role and the institution of the school nurse did not exist.
Health is a condition, indicator and result of a sustainable society. Basic indicators for the improvement of public health in each country are the education, social networks and the economic comfort of the population. At the same time, the cultural and social particularities of each person affect issues related to public health.
Furthermore the school nurses collaborate with the parents and the doctors of the supported children. In this way they can be informed and received all these instructions which are essential for the medication of the students. The collaboration between the school nurse and the parents and the treating physicians is helpful for any other necessary knowledge about the support of the children with disabilities. The school nurse has also the duty to do whatever is defined by the law that concerns and describes the license of his profession of his industry. In addition the nurse of the school unit could inform all the student population in collaboration with the teaching staff to give first aid and deal with an emergency. This can be effective through a variety of educational methods. He / she can use supervisory material according to the needs and the age of the student population. The nurse has also a basic duty to check and supervise the children with or disabilities during the breaks. The cooperation with the on - duty teachers is very important. In this way a variety of possible adjustments can become for the convenience of the students, when they are deemed necessary.
The methodology of the research will be very helpful for an extensive analysis about the methods which are followed as well as for the course of its implementation. Furthermore the data collection tools are presented as well as the research data and the way the research will be presented and analyzed. There are also various issues related to the vadility and the reliability of the results of our research and issues related to the ethics of the doctoral research. The main tool that will be used in this doctoral dissertation is the questionnaire. The questionnaire is a means and this helps to collect research data and complete without the physical presence of the researcher. In this way the analysis of research data can be made possible. The questionnaire has a variety of advantages as well as disadvantages.
The conclusions of this doctoral research will be very useful for all the researches which will be done in the future on the same scientific field. In this way we will be able to realize the results of the basic purpose of our phd research ( the role of the school nurses in organizing a variety of health educational programs in a special school unit as well as the mental health of children with disabilities and the development of their skills on issues related to public health. In this way the school nurses as well as the teaching staff and all the educational community will be able to develop the practices that are adopted for the student population in the school units in relation to health educational programs and other issues that are referred in this research
