Resumen 1. Objetivos de la tesis En esta tesis doctoral se propone un modelo de divulgación científica para la Universidad de Murcia (UM) que, como paradigma, puede extrapolarse en sus elementos esenciales a las otras universidades de nuestro entorno. Con este modelo, creado en base a los resultados de una investigación empírica sobre la Unidad de Cultura Científica y de la innovación (UCC+i) de la institución docente, se pretende poner en valor el trabajo realizado en materia de gestión de la divulgación que se ha desempeñado en esta Unidad, y sugerir la incorporación de una serie de mejoras para el desarrollo de un trabajo más eficiente en el futuro a partir de cuatro variables: la experiencia adquirida desde esta Unidad, la misión propia de la universidad, las necesidades sociales actuales y otras referencias institucionales valiosas.
2. Metodología La investigación empírica llevada a cabo se ha basado en la observación directa de una realidad concreta: la gestión de la divulgación científica realizada en la Universidad de Murcia a través de su Unidad de Cultura Científica. La proximidad y experiencia de la doctoranda al frente de la UCC+i de la UM, en la que ha trabajado ininterrumpidamente desde 2010 hasta la actualidad, ha motivado la elección de esta metodología, que puede considerarse por su validez como un estudio cuasi experimental, al que se han incorporado análisis cualitativos y cuantitativos. Con los resultados hallados en el estudio de caso se han desarrollado mecanismos para interpretar la información y demostrar las hipótesis de la tesis, así como para crear un modelo integral de gestión para la UCC+i de la UM.
3. Conclusiones Los resultados hallados en la siguiente tesis doctoral han permitido comprender como la UCC+i de la UM se está integrando en el ecosistema universitario y definir cómo debería ser su papel como entidad divulgadora de la ciencia en el futuro. Así, gracias a los datos obtenidos, se ha puesto de manifiesto que la Unidad, a pesar de la encomiable labor institucional realizada de cara a la sociedad, todavía no ha alcanzado los objetivos que cabría esperar. Entre las razones que podrían explicar esta circunstancia se encuentran: la falta de una estructura consolidada, el no contar con el suficiente apoyo institucional, la escasa financiación propia, su dependencia de ayudas externas, la ausencia de personal fijo y, en consecuencia, el abuso de personal temporal, su insuficiente visibilidad y reconocimiento social, etc. Todas estas circunstancias deberían revertirse en la medida de lo posible para que se puedan aprovechar todas las capacidades que este servicio universitario tiene.
Con los resultados obtenidos de la investigación empírica se ha propuesto un modelo de gestión de la divulgación científica para la UCC+i de la UM mediante el que se ha descrito cómo debería estructurarse el trabajo en esta Unidad y se han sistematizado todos sus elementos, funciones y procesos. Con dicho modelo se ofrece una completa representación conceptual del fenómeno para que este servicio avance, mejore y logre mayores cotas de excelencia. Se estima también que podrá servir de prototipo para las UCC+i que deseen constituirse a nivel nacional como tal, o para ayudar a las que ya desarrollan funciones divulgativas a mejorar su trabajo.
Entre las prácticas aconsejadas para que este servicio mejore figuran, grosso modo, la ampliación de las líneas de actuación emprendidas, la existencia equilibrada de personal dentro de la estructura para poder desarrollar el trabajo en condiciones, la necesidad de una financiación mínima para posibilitar la ejecución de las tareas, el fortalecimiento de la comunicación a través de la implementación de técnicas que proporcionen calidad a los productos, la internacionalización de los contenidos divulgados, el mayor y más profundo tratamiento especializado de la información científica publicada en revistas de impacto, el aumento del uso de recursos multimedia -fotos, audios y vídeos, la inclusión de piezas periodísticas y/o actividades sobre todas las áreas de conocimiento (incluidas las ciencias sociales y las humanidades), la igualdad de género, la potenciación de las herramientas que ofrece la web, la optimización del trabajo con redes sociales, y el diálogo y la participación ciudadana en aras de una investigación e innovación responsables.

Abstract 1. Objectives The principal objective of this PhD thesis is to propose a model of scientific dissemination for the University of Murcia which, as a paradigm, could be extrapolated on its fundamental components to all other universities of our environment. With this model, which was created on the basis of an empirical research on the Unit of Scientific Culture and Innovation (UCC+i), we aim to showcase the efforts to manage the dissemination in this Unit and to suggest the inclusion of various improvements for the development of a more efficient work in the future, based on four variables: the gathered experience from this Department, the university's own mission, the current social needs and other valuable institutional references.
2. Methodology The empirical research carried out has been based on the direct observation of a specific reality: the management of the science dissemination practiced at the University of Murcia through its Unit of Scientific Culture. The proximity and experience of the doctoral student in charge of the UCC+i of the UM, at which she has steadily worked since 2010 and up to the present, has motivated the election of this methodology, which can be considered given its validity as an almost experimental study, and to which qualitative and quantitative analyses have been added. With the results obtained by the case study some mechanisms have been developed to interpret the data and demonstrate the hypothesis of this PhD thesis.
3. Conclusiones The results obtained in the following PhD thesis have led to a comprehension of how the UCC+i of the UM is taking part in the university ecosystem as well as a definition of how its role as an entity for the dissemination of the future science should be. Thus, due to the data collected, it has become evident that the Unit, despite the commendable institutional efforts that have been made towards society, has not yet met the expected targets. Among the reasons which could explain this situation we find: a structure not consolidated, the lack of institutional support, the limitation of its own funding, its dependence on external aid, the absence of permanent staff and, as a consequence of that, the abuse of temporary staff, the insufficient visibility and social acknowledgement, etc. All these circumstances should be reverted as much as it could be possible in order to take the best of all the capacities that this university service offers.
With the results that have been obtained from the empirical research, a model of scientific dissemination management has been proposed for the UCC+I of the UM, by means of which it has been described how the work at this Unit should be structured and all its elements, functions and processes have been systematized. With the forementioned model a complete representation of the problem is provided so that the service progresses, improves and reaches better heights of excellence. It is also thought that it could be useful as a prototype to other UCC+i that wish to be established at a national level as such, or to be of help to those at which dissemination activities take place.
Among the recommended practices for this service to improve appear, roughly, the extension of the courses of action taken, the balanced existence of staff in the structure in order to be able to carry out the work in good conditions, the need of enough funding to allow the implementation of the tasks, the strengthen of the communication through the adding of techniques that provide the products with quality, the internationalization of the contents disseminated, a greater and more thorough specialized treatment of the scientific information published in journals of impact, the increase in the use of multimedia resources -images, audios and videos- the inclusion of news and/or activities about every and each field of knowledge (which includes social and human sciences), gender equality, the promotion of digital tools, the optimization of the presence in social networks, and the dialogue and participation of society in pursuit of a responsible research an innovation.
