  • Resumen
    • The study investigates construction and transformations of the Littoria railway station designed by Angiolo Mazzoni. In 1923, the Ministry of Communications showed the willingness to build a new rail yard reusing an existing roadman’s house, but nine years later the intentions changed and it was decided to construct a totally new building, inaugurated in 1932. Between 1934 and 1935 the first railway station was expanded by Mazzoni himself.

The analysis of the archival documents allows to overcome the idea of Modern buildings as a results of unitary design actions. Despite the current alteration of surfaces and spaces, the railway station documents today a significant process of layering of different parts, which represents a relevant feature for knowledge and conservation of Modern heritage.
