    La planta de baterías de hornos de cok y subproductos de la Empresa Nacional Siderúrgica S.A. domina desde mediados del siglo XX el nuevo paisaje industrial de la ciudad de Avilés (Asturias). Las baterías combinan en sus planteamientos urbanísticos y arquitectónicos valores funcionales y estéticos propios del Movimiento Moderno, que por su calidad y trascendencia le han conferido un interés patrimonial reconocido, junto al resto de instalaciones de la factoría, mediante su inclusión en el Plan Nacional de Patrimonio Industrial. Tras su cese productivo en el año 2019 diversas instituciones científicas han manifestado la necesidad de conservar y dotar de nuevos usos la coquería, los edificios de almacenaje y talleres auxiliares y la maquinaria, como testimonio material de uno de los proyectos más ambiciosos y valiosos del Instituto Nacional de Industria.

    The coke oven batteries plant and by-products of the Empresa Nacional Siderúrgica S.A. has dominated the new industrial landscape of the city of Avilés (Asturias) since the middle of the 20th century. In their urban and architectural approaches, the batteries combine functional and aesthetic values characteristic of the Modern Movement. Due to the quality and transcendence of its values the plant has been conferred a recognized patrimonial interest, together with the rest of the facilities of the factory, by means of its inclusion in the spanish National Industrial Heritage Plan. After the ending of its productive activity in 2019, several scientific institutions have expressed the need to conserve and to give new uses to the coking plant, the storage buildings and auxiliary workshops and the machinery as the material evidence of one of the most ambitious and valuable projects of the Instituto Nacional de Industria.
