Peter Greenaway: ¿Cineasta, o artista plástico?

    El objetivo del presente artículo persigue constatar la intensa relación que, desde sus inicios, mantiene una figura como Peter Greenaway con el medio cinematográfico y con las vanguardias artísticas, en especial con la pintura. Para ello se analiza a este controvertido autor tanto desde la óptica de los cineastas-pintores, alejados de la narración clásica impuesta por Hollywood; como desde el punto de vista vanguardista de los artistas que con su aproximación al cine, contribuyeron como pioneros a la construcción del lenguaje cinematográfico. Finalmente hacemos un balance de su transitar desde el cine de autor europeo hasta sus últimas creaciones como video-artista, donde parece encontrar una salida a las actuales limitaciones creativas del séptimo arte.

    The aim of this article is to verify the intense relationship that, from its beginnings, maintains a figure like Peter Greenaway with the cinematographic medium and with the artistic vanguards, especially with painting. This controversial author has been analyzed from the point of view of the film-painters, which do not follow the classic narrative imposed by Hollywood; and from the point of view of the artists who, with their approach to cinema, contributed as pioneers to the construction of cinematographic language. Finally, we take a journey from the European author cinema to his latest creations as a video artist, where he seems to find a way out of the current creative limitations of the seventh art.
