Este trabajo analiza la brecha de género en México, los limitantes del conocimiento político en las mujeres y las circunstancias de su participación política en el país. De acuerdo con los determinantes de la sofisticación política: habilidad personal, motivación política y oportunidad de información (Delli Carpini & Keeter, 1996; Luskin, 1990), se utiliza la ENCUP de la Secretaría de Gobernación en 2012. Los resultados indican que las mujeres mexicanas tienen niveles bajos de información, son más propensas a contestar “no sé”, incluso cuando pueden tener la respuesta correcta, y evitan participar en conversaciones políticas, dañando sus oportunidades de aprender más

This paper analyzes the gender gap in Mexico, the limitations of political knowledge in women and the circumstances of their political participation in the country. According to the determinants of political sophistication: personal ability, political motivation and information opportunity (Delli Carpini & Keeter, 1996; Luskin, 1990), and the ENCUP of the Ministry of the Interior used in 2012; the results indicate that mexican women have low levels of information, are more likely to answer “I do not know”, even when they can have the right answer, and avoid participating in political conversations, damaging their opportunities to learn more
