Weight, Weight, Don’t Tell Me” is an opinion piece, and its author is entitled to his opinion. As for my take, I disagree. Yes, weight is not a fundamental physical quantity, and yet it is an indispensable one. What would we do without it in statics and dynamics? How would you analyze the motion of an object on an inclined plane if you don’t know what weight is? What does a bathroom scale measure? Keeping in mind that physics is an ongoing “team sport,” any physics teacher should be able to answer that question in a universally acceptable fashion.
