More and more studies are currently proving the benefits of interdisciplinarity in the teaching and learning of a foreign language through music. However, none of them consider that developing the prosodic elements of another language can be related to the study of the physical parameters of sound; despite the fact that both share their most basic constitutional element:
the sound wave. The aim of this research is to find out the preparation, attitudes, and aptitudes of future teachers of Early Childhood and Primary Education towards an interdisciplinary proposal that intertwines the subjects of Music and English as a Foreign Language. This proposal −based on the analogy made between the parameters of sound −tone, loudness, duration and timbre− and their prosodic counterparts in spoken discourse −pitch-range, accentuation, rhythm and phonetics− is presented in the form of two training sessions. The effectiveness and depth of the method is proven by means of the implementation of an initial diagnostic test and a postest (designed ad hoc) which frame the aforementioned training sessions, and which have provided data on the attitudes of the students, as well as on their aptitudes. The sample is made up of 14 students that belong to the Master’s Degree in Research and Innovation in Specific Didactics for Early Childhood and Primary Education from the Universidad de A Coruña (UDC). Even though the sample is too small, the analysis of the data collected indicate that: on the one hand, there is a need for some specific training in basic prosodic-musical aspects for the implementation of this method in Early Childhood and Primary school classrooms; and, on the other hand, the intrinsic naturalness and logic of the relationship established between the parameters of sound and music education (aural and vocal) for the improvement in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) is reflected.
