We are currently living in an era of technological advancements, notably in the continuous progression of artificial intelligence. This phenomenon has been particularly significant in the integration of biometrics into our daily activities, exemplified byits use in devices such as personal computers and smartphones. However, it is noteworthy that the application of biometrics in humanitarian initiatives has emerged in a revolutionary manner, aiming to contribute positively to access to human rights. Biometrics, extending beyond mere surface observation, coupled with blockchain, proves capable of storing extensive sets of information, establishing a valuable history for humanitarian operations. This integration enables anonymous, swift, and efficient donations, in addition to preserving comprehensive documentary records about each refugee. Notably, the ongoing debate in the European Union regarding the artificial intelligence regulation project classifies biometrics as a high-risk technology for users in the majority of cases. Nevertheless, this analysis seeks to demonstrate, through a bibliographical review and document analysis, that artificial intelligence can be an essential ally in the comprehensive formulation and management of migratory publicpolicies. Beyond its specific application in humanitarian aid, it is proposed that artificial intelligence contributes to the social inclusion of refugees and migrants. Finally, it is argued that, for the use of these tools—biometrics along with artificial intelligence systems and blockchain technology—to benefit society, it is imperative that the text of the European Artificial Intelligence Regulation pays special attention to these aspects. This attention should be directed not only to prevent the hindrance of the use of these technologies but, above all, to ensure transparency, security, traceability, and non-discrimination in their application.
