The sciences, that is, the knowledge that originated in Europe with the rise of modern culture, and in opposition to the medieval tradition, spread to other parts of the world as they found the conditions for it. Our purpose is to understand the initial process of insertion of science in the Amazonian school system, through the following questions: What sciences were these? Which educational institutions adopted them and when? And, what conditions did they find to enter the local culture? Analyzing, initially, the historiography, especially with regard to the curricula of the schools, we found that, although modernity had begun to be inserted in the schools of the Amazon, with the Reformas Pombalinas, in the mid-eighteenth century, the sciences were only included in schools, in the following century, with the entry Elements of Physics and Chemistry, and General Principles of Botany. Through the analysis of documents, such as laws, reports, pronouncements, in short, speeches elaborated by agents of the time, we found that this event was made possible by the conditions created in the local culture, represented by the expansion of modernity in accordance with the speeches that the promoted, prepared by government officials and other agents who had the power to influence the inclusion of science in school curricula.
