We live in an unequal world marked by significant asymmetries, where conflicts arise. However, it is essential to learn how to manage these conflicts in an appropriate and peaceful manner. In this context, the United Nations (UN) established the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to strive for a better society. The aim is for countries to promote and implement these goals while respecting human rights, particularly the dignity and equality of all individuals. This specific SDG seeks to significantly reduce all forms of violence, promote the rule of law, and ensure equal access to justice. It falls to states, through their justice policies, and to courts to implement this development. Access to justice encompasses two fundamental purposes: access to the judicial system, allowing everyone to claim respect for their rights, and the realizationof justice, whether through judicial or extrajudicial dispute resolution mechanisms. In this context, Extrajudicial Dispute Resolution will be a crucial tool in achieving SDG 16. Negotiation, conciliation, mediation, and arbitration will prove to be effective mechanisms to foster peace and justice more swiftly. The time when access to justice was seen merely as a prerogative of the state has passed; it now represents a guarantee of all rights enshrined in a given legal system. This realization embodies formal equality and respect for human rights. Access to impartial and independent justice thus becomes the cornerstone of the holistic development of the human being, mandating respect for rights and freedoms while providing a higher quality of life.Within the justice system itself, access to justice refers not only to effective judicial protection or adherence to due process but also encompasses all mechanisms capable of resolving disputes. Therefore, access to justice serves as a valve that ensures the fulfillment of all rights and the respect for their enforcement. A deductive method will be employed, allowing us to justify the connection between extrajudicial dispute resolution methods and this goal. SDG 16, appealing for peace and justice, will have all avenues of the great edifice of “justice” open to it, with extrajudicial means presented as valid and effective instruments for resolving disputes, contributing to the construction of a fairer and better world.
