Throughout the 21st century, the development of a circular and sustainable economy has become one of the priority topics on the agendas of most countries in the European Union and its orbit. In this line, Turkey has also shown interest in developing a more sustainable economy that, in turn, allows for the creation of jobs for its citizens in the coming years. In this contribution, we present the results of an international qualitative research, where focus groups and interviews were implemented, whose objective was to determine the competencies and professional profiles that will be key to the development of the bioindustry in this territory, thus helping to define the training that young people should receive. The results show that, without overlooking some of the current profiles linked to the primary and transformation sectors, in the coming years there is an expected clear trend towards the generation of profiles that include a high qualification in subjects related to technology, bioinformatics, biomedicine, innovation, sustainability, and the inclusion of artificial intelligence. The ultimate goal of these profiles is to modernise the industry, and for this, the importance of strengthening the collaboration ecosystem between industry, academia, and educational institutions is emphasised
