    L’obra, el pensament i la vida del filòsof György Lukács és, sense dubtes, un lloc privilegiat de trobada de l’art i la filosofia al segle XX. La reflexió filosòfica al voltant de l’art i la literatura va ser present durant tota la seva dilatada biografia; una vida i una obra que es varen estendre gairebé al llarg de tot el segle que acabam de deixar enrere.

    Treballador infatigable, el filòsof hongarès, amb més de setanta anys —havia nascut l’any 1885—, va escometre l’aventura d’escriure una monumental Estètica, de la qual només va concloure la primera part; aquí, es va intentar fixar el lloc de l’art a la història de la humanitat, determinar-ne l’estatus, definir allò que és essencial al «reflex estètic». Aquesta primera entrega —quatre volums en edició castellana— havia de donar pas a una de segona que configuraria una història material de l’art, però nous interessos, noves urgències es varen interposar en el treball, intens treball, del vell filòsof.

    Així doncs, l’any 1963 apareixia en llengua alemanya aquesta obra d’estètica que amb molta rapidesa va ser traduïda al castellà i publicada per Grijalbo; denses, atapeïdes pàgines de reflexió filosòfica que avui romanen gairebé a l’oblit —editorialment exhaurides— de determinades històries de l’estètica i dels debats sobre l’art a la nostra contemporaneïtat. És aquest un oblit justificat? Hi ha encara valors importants a les seves pàgines que en justifiquin la lectura? Què caracteritza la seva concepció de l’art? Ens pot ajudar el vell Lukács a entendre els camins i cruïlles de l’art del nostre segle? La nostra comunicació no pot oferir respostes per a tots aquests interrogants; es proposa, tan sols, posar sobre la taula, una perspectiva, un punt de reflexió, un més, que pugui ser útil a tots els interessats en l’art i la filosofia; en l’home i el seu futur.

    The work, though and life of the philosopher György Lukács is, without any doubt, a privileged meeting place of the art and philosophy of the 20th century. The philosophical thinking about art and literature was present during all his wide biography; a life and a work which spreaded during almost the whole century which we have just left behind.

    Indefatigable worker, the Hungarian philosopher, over seventy years old– he had been borned in 1885— undertook the adventure of writing a monumental Aesthetic, from which he only concluded the first part; here, it was tried to settle on the place of art in the mankind’s history, to decide its status, to define what is essential to the «aesthetic reflect». This first issue –four volumes in spanish version— had brought it to the second which would form a material history of art, but new interests, new urgencies interposed in the work, intens work of the old philosopher.

    So, in 1963 this work of aesthetic came out in German language which was traslated into Spanish and published by Grijalbo, very quickly; dense, thick pages of philosophical thinking which nowadays sink into oblivion —edition out of print— of some aesthetic histories and debates about art in our contemporary history. Is this oblivion justified? Are still important values in their pages which justifies its reading? What characterize its conception of art? Is the old Lukács able to help us understand the paths and crosses of art in our century? Our comunication cannot offer us answers to all these questions marks; it is only proposed to table a perspective, a thinking point, one more, which may be be useful to all people who are interested in art and philosophy; in human being and his future.
