    With the advent of the jeans manufacturing business, Agreste de Pernambuco acquired great economic relevance. The cities of Toritama, Santa Cruz do Capibaribe and Caruaru emerged in the development of the branch of the textile industry, generating new opportunities. In the face of such a scenario, surrounding cities began to perform intermediary functions, Surubim being one of them. Located in the mesoregion of the Agreste Setentrional and in the microregion of Alto Capibaribe, Surubim has been inserted into the dynamics inherent in the manufacture of jeans. In this perspective, the present study aimed to analyze the socioeconomic changes that the branch of making jeans has brought to the municipality. Such an approach is justified by the interest in studies on economic and social formations, due to the possibility that they offer when admitting the knowledge of a society in its entirety andfractions, according to Santos (1977). The method of analysis is historical materialism, since it allows reflecting the relations of space through dialectics. In summary, we can indicate the trend of economic growth in the city of Surubim stimulated by the clothing industry, especially by the production of jeans, however, it is necessary to point out some of its difficulties, such as the lack of inspection, in order to stimulate the effective development based on socio-territorial sustainability

    Com o advento do ramo da confecção do jeans, o Agreste de Pernambuco adquiriu grande relevância econômica. As cidades de Toritama, Santa Cruz do Capibaribe e Caruaru despontaram no desenvolvimento do ramo da indústria têxtil, gerando novas oportunidades. Diante de tal cenário, cidades circunvizinhas passaram a realizar funções intermediárias, sendo Surubim uma delas. Localizada na mesorregião do Agreste Setentrional e na microrregião do Alto Capibaribe, Surubim vem se inserindo nas dinâmicas inerentes a fabricação do jeans. Nessa perspectiva, o presente trabalho objetivou analisar as transformações socioeconômicas que o ramo da confecção do jeans vem trazendo para o município. Tal abordagem justifica-se pelo interesse em estudos sobre as formações econômicas e sociais, devido a possibilidade que elas oferecem ao admitir o conhecimento de uma sociedade na sua totalidade e frações, conforme Santos (1977). O método de análise é o materialismo histórico, uma vez que permite refletir as relações do espaço através da dialética. Em síntese, podemos indicar a tendência de crescimento econômico na cidade de Surubim estimulada pelo ramo da confecção, especialmente pela produção de jeans, contudo, faz-se necessário apontar algumas de suas dificuldades, como a carência de fiscalização, com vistas a estimular o efetivo desenvolvimento pautado na sustentabilidade sócio territorial.
