    El Programa Marco es la principal iniciativa comunitaria de fomento y apoyo a la I+D en la Unión Europea, prestando especial atención a los sectores que resultan fundamentales para la competitividad del continente. Este es el caso del sector cerámico, una industria amenazada por nuevos productores como China y Brasil, que se enfrenta a la necesidad de un cambio tecnológico.

    En la 5º convocatoria, la participación española creció un 28% con respecto a la anterior llamada, alcanzando las ayudas la cifra total de 626,9 millones de euros. El proyecto MONOTONE, coordinado por el Grupo de Investigación en Tecnología Gráficas (GITG) de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV), fue una de las acciones subvencionas en 2002.

    Su objetivo consistía en parametrizar y controlar las variables influyentes del proceso productivo cerámico mediante modelos locales regidos por un modelo global capaz coordinar datos, comparar con estándares y actuar para obtener el producto final deseado, dando lugar a un mecanismo autodidacta. La unidad central debía integrar las necesidades de producción, almacenando toda información relevante, y ofreciendo informes a lo largo de la línea. El estudio de las pruebas llevadas a cabo en la planta piloto resultaron en la reducción tanto de piezas rechazadas y costes de no calidad en general, como de consumo energético y tiempo de almacenamiento.

    Actualmente, el GITG continúa trabajando en esta línea, transfiriendo parte de los conocimientos adquiridos a otras fases del proceso y desarrollando tesis doctorales que profundizan en alguno de los aspectos tratados.

    The Frame Programme is the main communitarian promotion and I+D supportive initiative of the European Union, paying special attention to the basic sectors for the competitiveness of the continent. This is the case of the ceramic sector, an industry threatened by new manufacturers such as China and Brazil, which faces the need of a technologic change.

    In the 5th call, the Spanish participation grew up a 28% with respect to the previous one, reaching the subventions a total amount of 626,9 millions euros. The MONOTONE project, coordinated by the Research Group on Graphic Technology (GITG) from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), was one of the supported actions in 2002.

    It aimed at standardizing and controlling all influential variables of the ceramic manufacturing process by means of local models managed by a global model, able to coordinate data, compare with standards and act to obtain the desired final product, generating a self-tough mechanism. The central unit had to integrated production requirements, saving all relevant information, and offering reports along the line.

    The analysis of the productions tests carried out in the pilot plant resulted in the reduction of both, non-conforming parts and quality and non-quality costs, as well as energy consumption and storage time.

    Currently, GITG is working in the transference of part of the knowledge acquired to other process phases, and developing PhDs that deepen in same of the aspects.
