    En los años ochenta los jóvenes investigadores del mobiliario abordamos y discutimos las catalogaciones de nuestros predecesores, enfrentándonos a una herencia difícil. La primera tentación fue pensar que muchas de las piezas eran falsas. Tras la fiebre justiciera inicial fuimos profundizando en el conocimiento de los muebles, diferenciando entre copias e interpretaciones historicistas de las verdaderas falsificaciones. El estudio de los muebles «de estilo» nos ha ido permitiendo discernir qué aportaron los comerciantes, los coleccionistas, los especialistas, los aficionados y los museos a la hora de darlos por antiguos, y las intenciones con las que lo hicieron. El aprecio del mobiliario español fuera de nuestro país durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y el primer tercio del XX, el propósito de reivindicar el hogar nacional durante el franquismo, y el arrastre indiscriminado de conocimientos en las publicaciones que se fueron sucediendo durante casi un siglo contribuyeron a confundir verdaderos y falsos.

    In the eighties, we young furniture researchers addressed and discussed the cataloging of our predecessors, facing a difficult legacy. The first temptation was to think that many of the pieces were fake. After the initial fever of justice, we deepened our knowledge of the furniture, differentiating between copies and historicist interpretations from true fakes. The study of «style» furniture has allowed us to discern what dealers, collectors, specialists, hobbyists and museums contribution when consideringthem antique, and the intentions with which they did so. The appreciation of Spanish furniture outside our country during the second half of the 19th century and the first third of the 20th, the purpose of reclaiming the national home during the Franco regime, and the indiscriminate transfer of knowledge in the publications that followed one another for almost a century contributed to confusing true and false.
