    ¿Por qué y para qué enseñar hoy literatura en las aulas? ¿Qué hacer con la literatura en la escuela? ¿Cómo educar en el aprecio y en el disfrute de la lectura y de la escritura literarias en estos inicios del siglo XXI, y en el contexto de una educación y de una sociedad sometidas a la fascinación de otras ficciones y de otros relatos que inundan la ventana electrónica del televisor y el diluvio de información de internet? No es nada fácil responder a estos interrogantes en una época como la actual en la que el libro convive con otros canales de comunicación que transmiten de una manera accesible y seductora los lenguajes y los mensajes. Por otra parte, y aunque es obvio que existe un cierto consenso escolar y social en torno a los objetivos de la educación literaria, también lo es que desde hace décadas asistimos a una diversidad casi infinita de enfoques didácticos, de modos de seleccionar los contenidos literarios y de organizar las tareas de aprendizaje en las aulas de la enseñanza literaria. En este ensayo se alude a asuntos como la evolución de la enseñanza de la literatura a lo largo del tiempo, el debate teórico sobre la identidad del texto literario, el sentido y significado de la educación literaria en el contexto de las actuales sociedades en red, los derechos del lector (y de la lectora) y el deseo de leer; asimismo, al final se enuncian algunas orientaciones didácticas para el quehacer docente en las aulas de literatura.

    Why and what for should we teach literature in the classroom today? What to do with literature in school? How to educate regarding the appreciation and enjoyment of literary reading and writing at the beginning of the 21st century and in the context of an education and a society subjected to the fascination of other fictions and stories that flood the TV’s electronic window and the deluge of information from the Internet? It is not easy to answer these questions in times like these, when books coexist with other channels of communication that transmit languages and messages in an accessible and seductive way. On the other hand, and although it is obvious that there is a certain scholastic and social consensus around the objectives of literary education, it is also obvious that, for decades, we have witnessed an almost infinite diversity of didactic approaches, of ways to select literary contents and organize learning tasks in literary education classrooms. This essay addresses issues such as the evolution of the teaching of literature over time, the theoretical debate on the identity of literary texts, the meaning and significance of literary education in the context of today’s networked societies, the rights of the reader (both men and women), and the desire to read. Moreover, it provides some didactic guidelines for the teaching of literature in the classroom.
